Innocence Restored

Innocence Restored

Your face is scrubby clean and the scars are healing fast.
Belly laughs will be your theme song now.
You can enjoy the feeling of warm grass between your toes again.
You're coming home to who you really are, who you were born to be.
Your past mistakes don't fit anymore. Might as well leave them by the dumpster like worn out muddy boots.
You'll be a bit unsteady at first, as you learn to walk all over again.
That's okay. We'll clap and cheer your every wobbly step.
We're gonna catch fire flies tonight. I saved a jar for you and Dad poked holes in the lid.
Then we'll lay on the driveway at midnight and watch the shooting stars spell out "Welcome home."
It's been a long journey, but you made it back to life.
I think Dad is making pancakes for breakfast.
