Overshadowed

The Annunciation – St Joseph Abbey, Spencer Massachusetts USA

Before Yeshua came to a stable in Bethlehem, He came to a virgin’s womb. By the divine technology of overshadowing, He Who created all, became a part of the world He created.

This overshadowing was the spreading-of-power-over a young girl whose only contributions were her “yes” and a womb. She was told by an archangel that the Spirit of Holiness would fall upon her in a cloud of glory. All she could do was be willing. Imagine the one who fills the heavens fit inside a virgin’s womb? This was humility’s greatest moment.

Mary offered Yahweh her future and reputation and dreams and plans for a home and family. This sacrifice of a young Jewish girl brought the Incarnation to humanity. Perhaps this is what is required by all who hear the message of “Christ in us”? Will we bring the Incarnation to humanity with our yes?

This same Spirit of Holiness invaded a small cave-grave some three decades later. He raised Yeshua from the dead. Did you catch that? The same Spirit of Holiness that overshadowed Mary also raised Christ from the dead.

And if that wasn’t staggering enough, we also know that this same Spirit that raised Yeshua from the dead is at work is us!!!!

The question is, what will the Spirit of Holiness do in the womb of our hearts? Will we say a complete yes? Will we lay aside our vision for the future, our reputations, our dreams and plans so that Yeshua will be born through our lives? Will we say yes to what we do not understand but simply trust the One who is asking us? Can we believe that the womb of our spirit tabernacles the Living God?

Ask Him to overshadow you. It was this overshadowing of glory in Peter that healed people who came into his proximity. We can only imagine what the Spirit of Holiness will cause in us when He overshadows us.

Ask Him to overshadow you. Then, whatever He asks you, just say yes.

On Humility

“It is only where we, like the Son, truly know and show that we can do nothing of ourselves, that God will do all.” Andrew Murray Humility

As we often find in Kingdom life, first is last and high is low. What I mean by that is that anything motivated by self promotion, self serving, or an over rated view of ourselves actually has the opposite effect spiritually. When we try to be strong in our own strength, we weaken ourselves spiritually. When we try to push our way ahead, we actually decline spiritually.

Jesus declared He did nothing except what He saw Father doing. We can live extravagantly within His heart and yield all to Him as He did with Father. Our surrender is the door into kingdom power. Not striving. Not struggling. Not self-effort. But surrender. To live entangled in Divine beauty and brilliance is the greatest life – absorbed into unlimited power and love.

Coming Home

There is a seeing Him, without my eyes and a knowing Him, without thoughts.

He beckons me, beyond feelings, into an immersion into His nature.

This is an entanglement from which I never want to detach.

It’s like a homecoming, to a new territory where all I feel is wanted.

It’s so much more than what I have called “acceptance”

Because human relationships have masks and veils,

And always a shadowy wondering, “oh if they only knew me…”

But here, inside the ‘within Him”

He clothes me with imparted innocence and unearned honor.

So, masks and veils are set aside

And all that remains is the tender embrace

Of the Godhead.
